Labor’s new safety laws a nightmare for community groups, volunteers and church groups

State Member for Redlands Mr Peter Dowling said today that Labor's new work safety laws could prove an unmitigated disaster for tens of thousands of Queensland volunteers and their organisations – targeting everyone from Local Church groups, Meals on Wheels to Community Volunteers and Scout groups.

Mr Dowling said, “What this long-term Labor government has done is effectively put our church groups, community volunteers groups and all our sporting clubs under Federal workplace laws. It’s an unmitigated disaster for our volunteers, as any breaches of workplace laws could result in them facing fines up to $300,000 and up to five years’ jail."

New Road Rules around Schools

State Member for Redlands Mr Peter Dowling today reminded everyone to slow down around School zones, as the 2012 School year commences.

Mr Dowling said, "Changes are being made to make it easier for everyone to remember when to slow down and take extra care when driving around schools. All School zone operating times in Queensland will be progressively standardised to 7-9am and 2-4pm, unless specifically signed and signs will be gradually upgraded across the state between January and July 2012."

Community Reminded to be Storm Ready!

State Member for Redlands Mr Peter Dowling today encouraged the Redlands community to be storm ready and prepare a household emergency evacuation plan and keep a set of essential Emergency telephone numbers handy.

Mr Dowling said, "If members of the public do need assistance, they should call 132 500 to request the assistance of their local SES groups. If the matter is life-threatening then the best number to call is Triple Zero (000)."

Labor lets parents down again as Teacher-aides support limited to only minutes per week!

Latest education department figures released this week by the Queensland Government, reveal teacher-aide support for Queensland Primary School students is now less than an hour a week.

State Member for Redlands Peter Dowling said the level of support was pathetic and he was struggling to understand why Labor are continuing to let down parents and families during such hard financial times.

Mr Dowling said, “It’s no surprise that some parents have been voting with their feet by not sending their children to public schools. The Labor party doesn’t plan or deliver,"

"According to the department’s own figures* Queensland primary school students from Prep through to Year 7 are now receiving support measured in minutes a week, which will not assist or help to give them a solid start to their education."

Mr Dowling said that no government should cut corners with our children’s education. The LNP understands students need to get the basics right in the early years, unlike the lazy 20 year old Labor government.

“Labor promised support for teachers and support for students,  but as usual, ALP rhetoric doesn’t reflect what’s actually been delivered to our schools." stated Mr Dowling.

A CanDo LNP Government is committed to working with schools, principals, and parents to improve education outcomes in Queensland. It’s time for change. It’s time to get Queensland back on track.

 Not Labor - Not Again!

Labor’s stupidity continues - cuts to road safety puts Queensland lives at risk!

Labor’s slashing of vital road safety programs will put Queensland lives at risk, the LNP said today.

State Member for Redlands Peter Dowling said Labor’s cut of $2 million, amounting to a quarter of the funding for road safety campaigns this financial year, was an absolute disgrace.

Mr Dowling said, “What a poor message this is during the holiday period and over Christmas from Anna Bligh, Andrew Fraser and Transport Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk? The Queensland road toll already stands at 261, up 20 on last year, and this tired 20 year Labor government has slashed funding for critical road safety programs,"
