Is the State Government gambling road safety initiatives……..

There is concern about the future use of the Mount Cotton driver training facility which is a leading training facilities comprising of six purpose built diverse driving facilities that provide a safe, secure and controlled environment specialising in driver education and also offering a range of services for corporate and private events.

In November, the Queensland Police Service officially relocated its driver training activities from Mount Cotton Driver training facility to the new Queensland Police Service facility at Wacol.

"I ask the Minister for Transport what the future holds for one of the best driving facilities in the Southern Hemisphere?" said Mr Peter Dowling.

The site has been used to train police, fire officers, ambulance officers, Australia Post employees, students via the Rotary Clubs using the rider program, defensive-driving courses and drive days. This training simulating real life situations safe and controlled environment will help individuals understand and assist drivers to recognise potential hazards they may be exposed to in a normal driving environment.

"The staff who live nearby and who work in that complex are very, very concerned about their future." stated Mr Dowling.

The Minister should return certainty to the community and Queensland Transport staff who manage that facility and outline how that site will remain a vital and viable road safety tool in Queensland.
