School student safety jeopardized ……..

Safety is paramount for students from Faith Lutheran College who need to cross Cleveland-Redland Bay Road to access bus services both before and after school for the duration of the road works. Due to major road words taking place at the intersection of Beveridge Road and Cleveland-Redland Bay Road where traffic lights are being installed, I am concerned for their safety with the changed conditions.

"I understand these road works will continue for most of 2011 and will improve safety in this area however, until the road works are complete a school traffic supervisor to oversee students crossing Cleveland-Redland Bay Road in front of the school is urgently required." stated Mr Peter Dowling.

Students have become less visible to vehicles traveling along this road due to the construction equipment and are urgently seeking assistance during the period of construction.

"I have written to Rachel Nolan MP, Minister for Transport and Geoff Wilson MP, Minister for Education and Training expressing these concerns and requesting a school traffic supervisor to oversee students crossing the road in front of the school." Mr Dowling said.

Student safety should not be compromised at any time and Minister Nolan and Minister Wilson should support our request and offer an urgent solution to this issue for the start of the 2011 school year.

I will also be monitoring the Ziegenfusz Road intersection closely to ensure that the safety of students attending schools in this area will not be jeopardized.
